If you are a true Southerner, then you have tried this. It is a recipe I got after trying them at a cat fish house in Columbus Georgia. A lot of people turn their noses up when you talk about them. But, believe me they are great!
FRIED DILL PICKLES
1 pint kosher dill pickles 2 teaspoons ground red pepper
1 large egg lightly beaten 1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon all purpose flour 1 teaspoon paprika
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour Vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon hot pepper sauce 2/3 cup of juice from pickle jar
Drain the pickles, reserving 2/3 cup pickle juice. Press pickles between paper towels to dry. If using whole pickles, slice into normal thickness for pickles. Combine 2/3 cup pickle juice, egg, 1 tablespoon flour and hot pepper sauce. Stir well and set aside. Combine 1 1/2 cups of flour with the ground red pepper, salt and paprika. Blend well. Dip pickles in egg mixture and then dredge in the flour mixture. Fry the coasted pickles in 375 to 400 degree oil until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
The original recipe calls for garlic powder. If you do not use kosher dill's add a dash of garlic powder to the flour mixture to taste.
